 Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has invited 42 players to camp for the crucial back to back Afcon 2017 qualifying tie against Egypt. Siasia, who was named Super Eagles head coach recently, passionately appealed to all Nigerians to rally round the team and show belief as the side host the Egyptians in Kaduna on Friday, March 25, and Alexandria on Tuesday, March 29. The 22 home boys are expected to hit the Abuja camp on Sunday, March 6, before the overseas-based players arrive from Sunday, March 20. “I want to passionately appeal to Nigerians to show belief in the team and give us total support. It will not be easy but if we stick together and present a united force to fight this battle I believe we will triumph. “I have absolute faith in the players. Nigeria is blessed with so many talented footballers across the world and I know that those we are inviting for this match will give everything for the six points in both matches.

The technical crew of the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, headed by Florence Omagbemi, has called to camp 40 players ahead of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against either of Senegal or Guinea. Seven –time champions Nigeria have drawn a bye into the second round of the qualifying series, with the final competition to hold in Cameroon in November. The senior women teams of Senegal and Guinea will contend over two legs in March, with the winner to battle the Super Falcons in home-and-away contests between 4 th – 12 th April. The Nigeria Football Federation have appointed Samson Siasia as the head coach of the Super Eagles after Sunday Oliseh resigned on Thursday. Siasia will be assisted by Emmanuel Amuneke with Salisu Yusuf and Alloy Agu keeping their posts from the Oliseh circle. These changes are coming on the back of Oliseh’s shock resignation just few weeks before the all-important back-to-back 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clashes with Egypt. Siasia, who has coached the Super Eagles in the past, has been mandated to navigate Nigeria through the two matches with Egypt next month. Alloy Agu and Salisu Yusuf were part of Oliseh’s backroom staff to the ill-fated 2016 CHAN tournament in Rwanda but have retained their positions despite Oliseh’s resignation.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the ‘Dream Team’ will play an international friendly with the Brazilian Under-23 side on Thursday, March 24 in Brazil. “The CBF is happy to host the champions of Africa, the Nigeria Olympic team, on the 24th March Fifa date at 7pm at the stadium of Kleber Andrade in the city of Cariacica, Vitoria, Espirito Santo. “The match will serve as preparation for both teams for their participation in the Olympic Games Rio 2016,” The Confederation of Brazil Football (CBF) said in a statement. Nigeria are reigning African champions at under-23 level after lifting the crown in Senegal last year and will look to replicate the feat of the class of 1996 who won Olympic gold at Atlanta ‘96.
