  Nigeria’s Super Eagles started their two-games friendly campaign with a 1-0 win over Mali at the Stade Richon in Rouen on Friday. Kelechi Iheanacho came off the bench in place of Alex Iwobi to score his first international goal for the Super Eagles. Interim coach Salisu Yusuf put out a makeshift squad with Musa Mohammed making his début at right back while Ogenyi Onazi stepped in a skipper for the day. With only goalkeeper Djigui Diarra to beat, Ighalo wasted a golden chance in the 19 th minute. There were plenty of great opportunities but Ighalo, debutant Musa Muhammed and Etebo could not get the ball into the Malian net before half time.

Odibe saves club from relegation

Nigeria defender Michael Odibe was the hero of the night as his goal helped his Concordia Chiajna side escape relegation from the Romanian top flight. Needing a point from their last two games in the relegation play-off, Chiajna took the short trip to Petrolul Ploiesti on Tuesday night to try and save their season and did so courtesy a 1-0 win with Odibe’s headed goal the difference. The home side made the better start as they found an opening in the Chiajna defence but didn’t make hay.

Siasia invites 42 for Egypt clash

 Super Eagles coach Samson Siasia has invited 42 players to camp for the crucial back to back Afcon 2017 qualifying tie against Egypt. Siasia, who was named Super Eagles head coach recently, passionately appealed to all Nigerians to rally round the team and show belief as the side host the Egyptians in Kaduna on Friday, March 25, and Alexandria on Tuesday, March 29. The 22 home boys are expected to hit the Abuja camp on Sunday, March 6, before the overseas-based players arrive from Sunday, March 20. “I want to passionately appeal to Nigerians to show belief in the team and give us total support. It will not be easy but if we stick together and present a united force to fight this battle I believe we will triumph. “I have absolute faith in the players. Nigeria is blessed with so many talented footballers across the world and I know that those we are inviting for this match will give everything for the six points in both matches.

Omagbemi invites 40 players for AWCON qualifiers

The technical crew of the Senior Women National Team, Super Falcons, headed by Florence Omagbemi, has called to camp 40 players ahead of the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifying fixture against either of Senegal or Guinea. Seven –time champions Nigeria have drawn a bye into the second round of the qualifying series, with the final competition to hold in Cameroon in November. The senior women teams of Senegal and Guinea will contend over two legs in March, with the winner to battle the Super Falcons in home-and-away contests between 4 th – 12 th April. Goalkeepers Ibubeleye Whyte and Sandra Chichi, defenders Onome Ebi, Josephine Chukwunonye, Ngozi Ebere and Joy Jegede, midfielders Halimatu Ayinde, Ngozi Okobi, Evelyn Nwabuoku and Joy Bokiri, and strikers Asisat Oshoala, Desire Oparanozie, Chinwendu Ihezuo and Francisca Ordega are among those called.
