Poland 2019: Aigbogun picks Utin, 20 others for World Cup

Head Coach Paul Aigbogun has named Captain Ikouwem Utin, goalkeeper Olawale Oremade, midfielder Kingsley Michael and forward Henry Offia in his list of 21 players for this year’s FIFA U20 World Cup finals in Poland. Also included are defender Valentine Ozornwafor – named in the Team of the Tournament at the U20 AFCON finals in Niger Republic in February – and vivacious attacking midfielder Effiom Maxwell. Aigbogun spoke to the players over dinner at their Bad Goegging, Germany training camp on Monday where he unveiled the list. The announcement by Aigbogun comes less than 24 hours before the team tackles Austrian club, Red Bull Salzburg in the Austrian city of Salzburg on Tuesday evening. The squad’s final pre-World Cup friendly will be against Red Bull Leipzig in Germany on Friday, with the delegation to fly out of Germany to Tychy on Sunday. Newly appointed Technical Adviser of Yobe Desert Stars Taiye Yusuf has said his focus this second half of the season is to keep the Yobe State-owned team in the Nigeria Professional Football League. Yusuf, who was appointed after the sack of Ngozi Elechi on Monday assured the Club’s fans that the team will not go down this season. “We need prayers from the fans of Yobe Desert Stars and by the grace of God we are not going to be relegated this season”. Maybe it is still early days, maybe because Nigerians have had to wait for so long, maybe also the raw passion but the hunger and desire of the teams to win games is down to the fact there is so much at stake; it's an abridged league and three points lost or won is a lot. Hostilities resumed on MD3 with a total of 16 teams in action. From Bauchi to Kano, Omoku down to Kwara, fans were treated to some special Sunday football. In Ilorin, there was an early kickoff. Enyimba of Aba and Kwara United squared off in what was a 5 goal thriller with the people's elephants finally dropping points after they succumbed to a 3-2 defeat in the hands of the Afonja warriors.

NFF endorses NPFL new season commence by 13th January

The Nigeria Football Federation has advised the League Management Company (LMC) to ensure the commencement of the 2018/2019 season not later than 13 th  January 2019. This was contained in a statement the NFF Emergency Committee released on Friday, in reaction to letters received from Clubs that qualified for the Super 8 Tournament of the Nigeria National League that their teams are depleted and therefore, they do not have enough personnel to prosecute the Super 8 as earlier scheduled, which would have enabled the NPFL to commence on 30 th  December 2018 The three Clubs that showed up in Aba as directed would each receive a compensation of the sum of N2,000,000 each, while the matter of the five that failed to show up would be referred to the relevant NFF committee to deal with.
